Wedding Palette Board: Mustard and Teal

I'm always looking for a palette combination that's a little off of the beaten path but still aesthetically pleasing, and this one delivers! Weddings aren't just pink and white these days; a dash of deep teal adds to the richness and warmth of the mustard. Just perfect for a vintage wedding!

Sea Glass and Eyelet Lace

Inspired by the ocean and dreams of spring. If you've ever searched a beach for sea glass, you know how this shade of blue is so coveted. When I lived on the beach, I painted my bedroom this shade of blue and had all white eyelet linens. It was the most peaceful room I've ever been in. It's also a beautiful palette for any sort of party, particularly a wedding!

Palette Board: Pastel Christmas Wedding

I can list a thousand reasons why Christmas weddings are the bee's knees. If it weren't for the fact that my family has threatened to disown me, I'd unquestionably have the big day this time of year.

If you are getting married in December and don't want your decor to be typical red and green, think about pastel Christmas; lots of pinks, pale blue and seafoam green, and the best part is it gives you a good excuse to use glitter! Vintage glass ornaments provide the perfect palette for a cheerful winter fete.

Smitten With~ DIY Headbands

Seriously head over heals for Project Wedding's headband tutorial! Awesome photo styling aside, the color and fabric combos are so delightful! Perfect gifts for bridesmaids, flower girls, Christmas, or ones self. I'm so crafting my ass off this weekend!

DIY Love: Button Tree

My love of buttons comes from visiting my grandmother when I was a little girl. She had jars and jars of colorful buttons, all shapes and sizes, from vintage to new. She was a wonderful seamstress and like most granddaughters, I regret not learning all I could from her. But I digress. I came across this darling do it yourself button tree from Makin Projiks and thought "what a great way to get those buttons out of the jar"! A little time consuming, but easy peasy and oh so pretty. I really like the combination of pastels as shown here. If you found enough buttons (yards sales are gold mines for them), these trees would make great wedding centerpieces, or decoration at the guest book and/or cake table.

Liz & Pete, by AE Photography

We all love weddings chock full of personal, handmade details, which is why I was so psyched when Ashley from AE Photography sent me Liz and Pete's photos.

It's so clear from the pictures that the day was about celebrating Liz and Pete's love. The intimate backyard ceremony was captured on an 8mm camera and played it back at the reception.

The colors are so vibrant and happy, making gerbera daisies an ideal choice. My favorite shots though are the ones of Liz and Pete on bikes with the handmade 'Just Married' License plates attached to the seats. You can tell that someone took a little time to draw and color the plates, making them so much more special than printing from the computer or buying from a store.

Congratulations to Liz and Pete! Be sure to check out more from their wedding on AE Photography's blog. While you're there, take a look at the 'Be Thankful' photo session Ashley is giving away!

Bonjour!

I am doing some behind the scenes work today, but didn't want to leave you hanging without a proper post! I came across this photo and had to share it. Paris is beyond dreamy, but this picture, I mean seriously, who doesn't want to be that girl? The gorgeous white sheeth dress fits her like a glove, and still she is able to indulge in {what I imagine to be} the tastiest pastries in the entire world. The layers of yumminess here are too much to take. Who's ready to hop a plane this very moment?

I Heart Mr. Boddington

Ask me what I love about Mr. Boddington's blog, and I'll reply "where would you like me to begin?". Delightful invitations? Check. Cleverly written? Check. Fictitious man of mystery and intrigue working behind the scenes to improve the way we correspond? Check.

You have to check it out to understand what I mean {click on photos to enlarge}.

Mr. Boddington's is a stationer and paperie, not a calligraphy studio, so the folks there tip their hats to some of their favorite hands at scripting, including Tara Jones, Paperfinger, Queen Quills, and Calligraphics.

This darling coat caught my eye. Mr. Boddington's invitation suite further enhanced the art deco theme and vintage flair of the bride and groom's wedding. Photograph by Nelson Hancock Photography.

For more, go to Mr. Boddington's website. Be sure to take a peek at the lookbook, as well as the illustrious history of the man himself.

Maggie's Bridals, by AE Photography

I bumped my original post today to feature Maggie's gorgeous bridal shots from the awesomely talented Ashley from AE Photography. When I opened Ashley's email and saw the photos, I wanted to share them with everyone just as soon as possible.

Maggie's look is reflective of another era. First things first, the hair clip. So simple and sweet with feather and pearls, one can imagine an old Hollywood actress wearing the very same thing. Works perfectly with the bottom pleated trumpet style gown with lace and pearls appliqued at the seam.

How about those shoes? Love, love, love the photo of Maggie in the chair showing her very modern laced up heels that somehow work amazingly with the rest of her outfit.

Ashley from AE Photography really did an awesome job of working Maggie into her surroundings; the Dillon Home in Sterling, Illinois provided the perfect setting for the vintage ambiance of the shoot.

Keep your eyes peeled for photos from Maggie's wedding on AE Photography's blog. Thanks again for sharing these magnificently romantic shots with us!

Inspired by: Vintage Christmas

As soon as Halloween is over, my mind turns to Christmas. There isn't anything in the world like listening to old Christmas carols, sipping a mug full of hot cocoa and decorating the house in holiday goodness. It is so much fun for a couple just starting out to discover their Christmas style and begin to collect ornaments together. For Tom and I, we like things that look as if they were passed down through generations and made by an old German grandmother. Picking faves is impossible, but here are a few choices in pretty, glittering pastels:

LOVE cotton spun Santa's like this one from The Pink Tulip.

Cute as a button snowy cottage ornaments.

Cody Foster is a wonderful folk artist who creates the prettiest paper pulp glitter houses like the one featured here. I want to collect a whole bunch and make a village under the tree!

Hearting these bottle brush trees!

Spool of old fashioned tinsel comes in gold, red and green too!

I'm not sure which is better; these fabulous retro lights or the box they come in.

Most of us had a grandmother who made us an ornament like Harriet the Hare for Christmas. If you aren't one of the lucky ones who still has theirs, Anthropologie carries a few different styles that are sure to make you feel nostalgic.

Simply adore the blown glass cuckoo clock ornament with pinecone weights.

Inspired By: Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette; the opulence of excessive wealth. I'll spare you the history lesson and get right to the guts of it. The mention of Marie brings to mind jacquard prints, ostrich hair feathers, pretty pointed shoes, and yes, Laduree.

Dress from Carolina Herrera's Spring 2010 collection; pink ostrich hair feather from Blanche's Place; Irregular Choice shoes from Overstock.

Inspired by: Grace Kelly

Ivanka Trump's wedding dress got me thinking about Grace Kelly and the glamorous style of the 1950's. I mean, did you see the girl's gorgeous Vera Wang gown? Stunning. This collection is a testament to the lasting style of an iconic Hollywood legend and the last decade of innocence.

Wedding Palette Board: Pumpkin & Midnight Sky

Okay, I wanted to do a Halloween inspired wedding board for you guys without all of the jim-crack of jack-o-lanterns, witches and bats (which we all LOVE, but everything has its place~). Pumpkin orange, witch green and black create the essence of the holiday and are perfect mates for the palette of this wedding board. Don't you just love the wedding ticket invitations and the pumpkin votives?!

Real Wedding Rundown

Some weeks I find too many weddings to love on my favorite photography blogs to give each its due credit, so here is a peak at a few of my recent favorites:

Elisabeth Millay has an amazing knack for capturing warm pink tones of sunlight in her photos, making the details of the weddings she shoots so feminine. Alexa and Rodrigo's celebration was styled with armloads of peegee hydrangeas, soft shades of pink, blue, and ivory, and the prettiest lily of the valley cake to date.

Isabelle and Daniel's wedding is what a wedding should be; chock full of vintage inspired details, a jaw dropping dress, and a whole lotta love. Elizabeth Messina of Kiss the Groom is hands down one of the best photographer's when it comes to capturing the little things that make a wedding one's own.

There isn't much anyone can say about Jose Villa's work that hasn't been said before. His work inspires my romantic side. If you aren't a regular follower of his work, you don't know what you're missing. Jose has given us a sneak peak at Gamze and David's wedding (gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a very big bow) and a couple of florals with the promise of more to come this week.

Jennifer and Kyle's wedding, courtesy of the lovely Lisa Lefkowitz, has a simple rustic charm that is still elegant in all of the right places.

You can tell from the moment you see Julie and Tucker's quintessential New England wedding that the region is in Lisa Rigby's bones. The event was a surprising cross between a vineyard and a nautical style wedding, but it worked!

What a great way to start off the week, wouldn't you say?

DIY Paper Flowers from Lillyella

Not only is this diy tissue paper flower project from Lillyella easy peasy and light on the purse strings, it's end product is so perdy and eco friendly! Can't you think of a million and one uses for these?

What you'll need for one 5" flower:
4 pieces of tissue paper, 10" x 5"
18" piece of thin wire, floral or any other type
Scissors

Stack the four sheets of tissue on top of each other. Make 3/8" accordion folds, creasing after each fold. I find it easiest to make one fold, flip it over, make the other, and repeat, so you are always folding up away from you and it's easy to see.

Fold the 18" piece of wire in half and slip over the center of the folded tissue. Twist the bottom closed. Using sharp scissors, trim the ends of the paper into rounded or pointy shapes. I chose rounded for this one.

Separate the four tissues layers, one at a time until the flower begins to take shape. Depending on what you will use them for, you can keep the bottom flat or you can puff them into a ball for hanging.

Be sure to add Lillyella to your daily reading list. Not only is the blog the bees knees, with diy projects and delectable recipes, they also have a sweet Etsy shop chock full of whimsical jewelry.
